2 Fi q 12s or 1 Fi q 18"?

Title says it all, I just want to get peoples opinion on whether 2 fi q 12s will be louder than a fi q 18. I have 2 fi q 12s now but only one is installed in my 03 mustang, just trying to get some opinions on whether or not i should make a box for both of them or just trade them out for a 18" fi q. Thanks in advance guys

Another concern is powering the 2 fi q 12s, will I need an upgraded alternator to power them because alternators arent cheap in a mustang haha

Keep what you have and build a new enclosure. Remember that the enclosure will make or break your setup.

Yeah I know, im going to use 3/4 mdf and all that, im wanting to do a 4.5-5 cu ft ported with both in it but its going to be an insanely tight fit haha, thanks for the quick reply btw, so you think if done correctly they'll be louder than an 18? I know there's more cone area and double the watts I just didn't know if it'd be that much louder than the one q now.

Actually an 18 has more cone area, not enough more to justify trading though. A pair of 12's is a much better option for a trunk.

I'd probably go with dual 12s. You're really splitting hairs on this. The enclosure will make a bigger difference, so I'd look at the space you have to use and figure out if dual 12 work better for baffle and port dimensions of if the 18 will work better.

Thanks guys, honestly i didn't realize 1 18 had more cone area until I looked it up haha. Im gonna stick with 2 12's I guess, just sucks that the build is gin to be pretty difficult and its going to take double the power.

You absolutely do not need double the power. What amp do you have now?

This is for a trunk car right? I have had alot more success with smaller woofers in trunk cars.

Doubling the power will only give you roughly a 3 db increase anyway.

haha, what I meant guys is that a q 18 and a q 12 are the same wattage so if I stick with two 12 qs now then ill be powering 3000 watts instead of just 1500. I know you don't have to put that much into those but I want to get as close to the wattage as I can. Right now I only have 1 12 hooked up but im still under powered, im running a 1000 watt alpine mrd-m1005 amp (it was only $100) but if I end up building this box, then i plan on getting a Kicker 2500.1 to split between the two subs. You guys think that will suffice? And yeah its in the trunk of my 2003 mustang.

What are you looking to accomplish? I had two SSA XCONs on 1300 watts total and for most people it would be considered as too loud. I would figure out how much room that you actually have before you move on.

I'm just trying to make it absolutely insane haha, there's no such thing as too loud. I just feel like if I stick with the 2 12's then ill have to get an alternator and ill end up spending a tremendous amount of money. I have enough room to make a box at least 5 cu ft. I've done some measuring and I have about 13" x 32" x 36". I figured putting 2500 into the two of them would be pretty insane. I was just trying to get advice on a whether 1 18 or 2 12's would be louder and b. if I stick with 2 12's and a 2500 will I need a new alternator?

2500 will probably require a new alternator. Here is an example of my one 12 on 600 rms in a trunk car
