Nextel is where its at.. But if your set on nokia like seems everyone else is (why?) I'd say get the 8290 I think it is.. Smallest tightest lil phone they ever made, yet i'v never seen a single person who had one except me..

I dont even know if they make them, but there like half the size of the new ones they give out... I still have a faceplate for one, and damn its slick lookin

I think Nextel is pretty sweet myself, but the problem with Nextel is that if you are out of Nextel's coverage area, you don't have service at all. Their phones do not roam with other carriers.

This is the problem with GSM in the US as well. GSM Only phones will not roam with the majority of networks outside of large metro areas. So if you happen to find yourself outside of the coverage area you can't make or take calls, even emergency calls.

I have a Nokia 6340i, which is a GAIT phone. Basically it's one of the few GSM / TDMA phones on the market. It doesn't have a color screen or a camera, but it has a WAP browser, voice dial, and a bunch of other features. It's nothing special to look at but for daily use, it works for me.

I got the 6340i from Cingular wireless. I originally wanted a phone with a color screen this time around, but I got this one for it's GSM/TDMA capabilities and it SHOULD work with the Alpine Mobilehub. I'm looking forward to that!

Nextel is crap. Overpriced, billing problems, less coverage than others. The 2 way is the only thing keeping Nextel in business.

I bought the t68i for the bluetooth capabilities, and of course the color screen. But the software or processor is way too s l o w. The color screen is also the worst one available, it has limited colors and somehow manages to attract dust beneath the cover where it cannot be cleaned.

I used to have the 8290. That phone was actually around the same size and heavier than the t68i, but worked great.

I still have a 8290 and now use a 3395, plain as heck, but a real work horse. Great bat. life, etc.

Why am I an idiot? I had Nextel for 2 years and had nothing but problems. Billing screw-up, over priced, didn't get service in half of Michigan. Now I have Alltel and get service all over the state and haven't had any billing, cs problems. I have had Centuryel/Alltel for over a year now.

who ever you end up with (I went with nextel and am very happy) look and see if you can sign up for your service and phone through amazon.com. The $300 nextel phones are free with all the rebates they give you. I did this and had no problem getting set up or anything. Also, where do you guys live that you can't get nextel coverage? I am outside of their area but am on a network that they rent service from... I've never had a problem?

Um, no. Yours maybe. All cell phones are built to break. But most are not as strong as the 33** series Nokia. Nextel made some real strong radios a while back.
