Solar Power for system

Does any one know if its possible to use solar power to charge auxilary batteries.

I have a large van and I was wondering if I could use the whole top of the van with solar panels. 2m x 4m on the roof of the van, would that help charge up my batteries?

Would 2m x 4m of solar panels be enough to charge auxhiary batteries?

Solar panels will cost you a lot. More than a new alternator. Just get a better alternator.
